The Yellow Gazette is 4 years old!

Can you believe it? The Yellow Gazette is entering its fourth year of publication. When it was launched in April 2010, we had no idea that it would continue this long. But as we kept producing issues, we kept finding new information worth sharing, as well as having a lot of fun with our fuzzy little family and other characters. These have kept us motivated in continuing to keep writing, developing graphics, spinning stories, sharing good info, and generally having fun. In so doing, we have also learned much about the e-publishing business that will stand us in good stead over the coming years.

ActiveWorlds citizenship to be free

As of the 15th of June, citizenship in ActiveWorlds will be free, according to Rick Noll, the CEO of ActiveWorlds Inc., who announced this at the recent town hall meeting. There will be no more 'tourists', as all people who sign in will be considered citizens.

Many of the forthcoming changes relate to the development of a credit system, where citizens can purchase items for AW credits, which are based on real money. There are a lot of details which will be announced by AWI in this month. For details currently known, readers can check out the AW Forums; see especially postings on the June Town Hall meeting.

Other changes that will take place relate mostly to world owners. There will be an increase to the number of people who can visit private worlds with no charges, and VOIP will be available to all worlds. Further details will be made available soon.

I've just heard that the Fuzzybottom lodge has been rebuilt after an alleged mishap in the kitchen by a certain young apprentice chef. However, it seems that the apprentice was not at fault, but rather a deficient bit of wiring. So much for the quality control of the Yellow Builders Guild... And more, it seems that the Office Manager of the YG, Ms Lucy Larksong, has deigned to grace us with her presence after an extended leave of absence. Perhaps now there will be some discipline being enforced around here. Rufus Fuzzybottom has been very busy earning his stripes in building a resort area at the old Burrfoot Cove place. See Fuzzy's article for more info. I have also heard from young Randy, who has begun his studies at Ursine U. in Yellowstone. His first term marks are in top 10% of the class. All of us at the YG, especially myself, are tremendously proud of this fine specimen of bearhood. That's all for this month, dearies. I picked up my briefcase, and the handle came off. I'm afraid to go to the bathroom. I was such an ugly kid -- when I played in the sandbox, the cat kept covering me up. I could tell my parents hated me. My bath toys were a toaster and a radio. I was such an ugly baby -- my mother never breast fed me. She told me that she only liked me as a friend. I'm so ugly -- my father carries around a picture of the kid who came with his wallet. When I was born, the doctor came into the waiting room and said to my father, "I'm sorry. We did everything we could but he pulled through." I'm so ugly -- my mother had morning sickness -- AFTER I was born. I remember the time that I was kidnapped and they sent a piece of my finger to my father. He said he wanted more proof. I was so ugly my mother used to feed me with a sling shot. I had plenty of pimples as a kid. One day I fell asleep in the library. When I woke up, a blind man was reading my face. My psychiatrist told me I was crazy and I said I want a second opinion. He said okay, you're ugly too. Yeah, I know I'm ugly... I said to a bartender, "Make me a zombie." He said "God beat me to it." I get no respect. The way my luck is running, if I was a politician I would be honest. When I was a kid my parents moved a lot, but I always found them. I tell ya, I grew up in a tough neighborhood. The other night a guy pulled a knife on me. I could see it wasn't a real professional job. There was butter on it. Tidings from the Academy brings you events in June

Summer Solstice - June 21

Traditionally, communities built big bonfires on Midsummer's Eve. This is called "setting the watch," and it is known that the fire would keep evil spirits away from the area. Some farmers will light fires on their land, and people still can be seen to wander about, holding torches and lanterns, from one bonfire to another. It is known that if you jumped over a bonfire -- presumably without lighting your self on fire -- you were guaranteed to have good luck for the coming year.

After the fires have burned out and the ashes gone cold, they can be used them to make a protective ward. You can make this by carrying them in a small pouch, It is tradition many believe that the Midsummer ashes will protect you from misfortune. You can also sow the ashes from your bonfire into your garden, and your crops will be bountiful for the rest of the summer growing season.

Astrologically, also June 25 2013, there will be a partial Lunar Eclipse.

The sun is entering Cancer, which is a water sign.

Midsummer is not only a time of fire magic, but of water as well. Now is a good time to work magic involving sacred streams and wells. If you visit one, be sure to go just before sunrise on Midsummer's eve and approach the water from the east, with the rising sun. Circle the well or spring three times, and then make an offering of silver. This will bring good health and clarity of mind, and will protect the water source from contaminations or curse. In magick you have to give to get...it's a simple rule.

Midsummer is also great time for herb gardens, because there are buds and blooms everywhere. This is a powerful time to gather herbs, and also to prepare and use them. The use of fresh herbs is always best, but any fresh herb can be dried simply by picking it and tying it up in small bundles in a well-ventilated area. Once they are completely dry store them in airtight jars in a dark place. For use in the future...

Well, there you have it - few useful things to know about the birth of a new season. Remember the rule with the way do only unto the world around you what you would have done to you. So be wise, be kind and above all have enjoyed the wonders of life.

Holidays in June

International picnic day hmm might not go so well with the ant union up in arms this year...
Father's day sadly should be renamed the day of the bad tie.
Flag Day when all fly high fly proud.
And last but never least
